Descent – Part 15
Kyle went on for another twenty minutes quoting Scripture, answering questions, and talking about temptation and trials. The reason that he knew so much about them was because he was so good at giving into their power. He had a nasty habit of trying to handle things on his own when things got tough. When the pressure built, instead of going to his knees in prayer, he was out the door facing the battle on his own. As he closed in prayer, he prayed for himself, in his heart.
He wanted to be a man of God. He didn’t want to be a man who would crumble when life dealt him a bad hand. He wanted to be a man who would not cater to the whims of this world, but would wait and seek out God’s plan in every detail of his life. He wanted to be a Rock, like Peter.
Sure, Peter had made his fair share of mistakes. He had turned his back on Jesus after traveling with Him and knowing Him personally. But God had done amazing things in his life despite his weaknesses. That’s what Kyle wanted in his own life. He wanted to be a man that, if the Bible were written today, he would be mentioned within the pages. He knew it was a lofty notion, but he wanted his faith to overpower any weakness or shortcoming that he had. But something told him that trials would come strong in the near future. Somehow he knew that he would be tempted, attacked. His faith would be tested to a great degree, so he prayed beforehand for the strength to handle anything that God allowed to come his way. Together, they could defeat anything. Kyle hoped.
